Director's Statment
Bodies of Water is a deeply personal story that grew out of a conversation with my brother, Michael, in the summer of 2024. While I pursued filmmaking, Mike chased his dream of professional baseball until a devastating neck injury in 2019 changed everything. Though he miraculously survived and fought his way back onto the field through relentless training, he faced repeated setbacks and ultimately chose to retire in 2024. At the same time, I was struggling with my own career during the film industry strikes, and in sharing our experiences, Mike and I realized how parallel our journeys were. That conversation inspired me to write a film that explores our shared search for success, purpose, and meaning.

I set out to make a film that I wanted to see. A film that challenged me, professionally as well as creatively. In addition to having emotional weight and drama, it needed to entertain. We had access to a beautiful home in Fort Myers, Florida to shoot and house the core members of our team. Making this more of a vacation than a traditional short film shoot. It's the hardest I've ever worked on a vacation, that's for sure.

We filmed over five days in the Florida heat, battling limited air conditioning, mosquitos, and exhaustion. Our small team pushed ourselves to the limit: shooting underwater, coordinating stunts, staging an intimacy scene, and working with full special effects makeup. Most days were true overnights. Ending your days by lounging in the pool just as daylight broke is not for the faint of heart, but something I'd recommend to anyone.

Our cast and crew was full of locals as well as folks from New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, California, and beyond. For that week or so, Florida became our home, and I'm so grateful to everyone involved. I hope you all enjoy what we worked so hard to create. It's an experience I'll never forget.
